MCU: Torunn is the daughter of Thor and the Lady Sif as part of an...arranged marriage of sorts. After all, Asgard needed an heir, someone to take the throne after Thor. And well, really, was there a better match in any of the realms for him? Odin didn't think so.
Growing up, Torunn was very close to Loki. She'd spend hours with him, amazed by the tricks he could perform. Needless to say, she took his betrayal very hard.
And Frigga's death even harder.
Neither of which were helped by her father's choosing Midgard (and Jane Foster) over Asgard. It's made Torunn very jaded towards both things, though she is determined to become a great queen, the kind of ruler her people deserve.
